What is Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a natural, effective way of making contact with the inner (subconscious) self, a source of many of our problems as well as a tremendous reservoir of unrecognised potential strength and knowledge.

Modern hypnosis is used not only for medical purposes, but also as an aid for the resolution of many problems of psychological origins.

Hypnosis is not sleep, it is a fully conscious cognitive state that allows heightened awareness, creativity and the absorption of beneficial learnings.  Hypnotic states are characterised by a tremendously pleasant state of deep relaxation akin to the feeling between wakefulness and sleep.

It is estimated that approximately 85% of people of all age groups will readily respond to clinical hypnotherapy.  It is often successful when other, more conventional methods of treatment have failed.

Hypnotherapy is completely natural and safe and there are no harmful side effects.  The benefits are long lasting and often permanent.

To help ensure a successful outcome all that is needed is a personal motive and desire for positive outcome.

What is 'clinical' hypnosis?
Clinical hypnosis is a research driven method of therapy that is underpinned by science.

Psychoneuroimmunology, or PNI, is the science which looks connections between psychological states, i.e. the emotions; the central nervous systems; and the immune systems.  It is understood that negative psychological events such as stress and anxiety have a direct effect on the immune system which consequently leads to poor health and disease.

When certain psychological and physiological conditions are in place the hypnotic state may naturally occur, we can often recognise this as daydreaming or revere.  Indeed most people experience a hypnotic state several times a day when they are in deep concentration and become unaware of time and surroundings, such as when playing an instrument, engaged in sport or driving.  One is very aware and in control, but at the same time unaware of conscious effort.  This natural state can be enhanced and put to deliberate good use with the assistance of a skilled hypnotherapist, it becomes possible to influence and direct changes in thoughts, feelings, and belief systems, and behaviour which ultimately enhances physical well being.

Hypnosis is a totally normal state that can be experienced by almost all mammals.  There are very few people for whom hypnosis will not work, the only requirement is that they want it to work and that it is in their best interest for it to work, hypnosis can never make a person do anything that they do not want to do.  It matters not whether one believes it will work, all that is needed is a personal motive and desire for positive outcome.

Online or face to face:

On-line hypnotherapy sessions are proving a tremendous success.  Apart from the obvious benefits to the client: being time and cost efficient, often more flexible and accessible, clients readily report that the hypnosis is every bit as effective as face to face consultations.

Face to face consultation and therapy is available at Canterbury Cosmetics, Spring Gardens Clinic, Simmonds Road, Canterbury CT1 3RD, a relaxing and private little haven close to Canterbury town centre.  The clinic has its own car park and is easily accessible via road and public transport.
